Calling Captain Ahab "obsessed"
is like calling Simon Wiesenthal a "hunter"
In a chapter entitled The Quarter Deck,
Ahab sermonizes to the entire crew of the whaling ship.
He impales them with a death wish
for the Great White Whale.
They respond with a blood lust for Moby Dick
and get rewarded with whiskey.
Starbuck, second-in-command to Captain Ahab, is the only dissenter:
I came here to hunt whales, not my commander's vengeance.
...Vengeance on a dumb brute that simply smote thee from blindest instinct!
Madness! To be enraged with a dumb thing, Captain Ahab, seems blasphemous.
