Bridge With No Cars

______________________________________________________________________________________

George Washington Bridge (1947)    Carlos Cruz-Diez
A man with a hat
looks out to sea
north of Fort Lee
west to infinity

Bridge with no cars
taut with suspension
stare-gazed attention
worthy of mention
What time of day
it is not night
unlit street light
more grey than white

Hat is a fedora.
bridge is a George
fog does engorge
history looms lorge

There is a man
with his hat and
his back to Manhattan
unseen but unflattened

  1. He parted the cable curtains to view the places he had been or will be.
He took in the sights that his car window would not permit, but the bridge window would.
