In 1958, The Champs championed Tequila.
About that time, boys all over England championed the music of Chuck Berry.
Shortly thereafter, they invaded our shores and I welcomed every attack.
There were Beatles, Kinks, Zombies, Rolling Stones and the Etceteras...
There was no wherefore for this invasion but it included the Who.
To quote one of the Beatles–Ringo Starr–
The other side of Liverpool is cold and damp.
The only way out is drums, guitar, and an amp.
That is basically what these bands consisted of.
Sometimes, adding a piano where necessary.
But there was an one exception which may explain why
The Dave Clark Five appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show
eighteen times.
Dennis Payton played saxophone in the band.
And Dave Clark Five paid homage
to the Champs' Tequila with
an incredibly sexy
sax-soaked song
called Chiquita.
If you can listen to it
and not move an inch
while doing so,
see your doctor
immediately!

Footnote
You shouldn't have to google-search for any
of the un-hyperlinked British bands
but I highly recommend listening
to all of them, especially
the vastly under-rated
Zombies.
