Come Back To Quoting Sorrento

______________________________________________________________________________________

Love–a dreary, often ridiculous business
when studied realistically but
what a heavenly luster it had
when viewed through the poets.

In health she had little excuse
for slurring her household duties,
for being an indifferent mother and wife.

There was relief in being absolved
from domestic responsibilities,
a forlorn joy in being set apart
even by misfortune.

There are no words for genuine despair,
there are not even tears,
there is only a heavenly numbness
for which to pray and upon that gray curtain
words may dance as words were intended to,
fans and pretty masks put up
to shield the hearts.
