Some Pine For Its Past

____________________________________________________________________________________

This Tree Has Seen Better Days

But

the

branches

still

have

their

rhythmic

sways.

No autumnal photograph
with leaves about to fall
But a massive evergreen
still standing tall

One million pine needles
breath their last breath
May we all be so
defiant of death

  1. Under an olive tree, Mr. Carpeo said
his beads, his hands— his branches.
Given the span given by God
They say, it takes one hundred years
For a tree to grow, one hundred years
For a tree to flourish, one hundred years
To end. But humans made short shrift
Of God's plan (for trees), and themselves.
A prayer is, in deed, in order.
