It is a sunny Sunday summer morning.
Anna and Annita walk to the store
to get bagels & cream cheese...
for a big family breakfast.
Everyone else is still asleep in their house.
Anna wants to awaken the family
with bacon vapors.
They get three grocery bags plus Anna gets a cup of cappuccino.
Since it is cumbersome for her to carry everything, she straps
the bagel bag on her four-year-old daughter's shoulder,
over Annita's Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt.
The bag would drag if held in the child's hand
but is the tot up to the task?
"It's like you're a grown-up girl carrying a purse," says the mother
"It's a bagel purse," says the daughter.
They both laugh.
But ten seconds later, the bag slips of the child's shoulder.
Mother resets the bag and then ten more seconds later,
the slippage is repeated.
After the third occurrence, Anna re-claims the bag.
But the heavier weight is now on her mind,
not on her wrists.
My daughter can't carry a two pound bag. Is this what Dr. Bliss
meant by a latent learning disability with physical implications?
Au contraire, Momma!
Dig the glide in the stride of the Winnie The Pooh-shirted child
as she swings her arms so freely, thinking about
pumpernickel&cream cheese and Sunday sunshine
with a smile that fills up the sky.
And who gets to carry all the baggage?
