History In Quarter Time

______________________________________________________________________________________

The comemmorative
state quarters included
the year the state
was inducted into
the union.

Deleware was first,
then Pennsylvania,
Georgia, New Jersey,
and Connecticut.

Those states were honored
by the US Mint in 1999

The next five states
were honored the next year...

In 2008, the last five states admitted to the union–Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona,
Alaska and Hawaii–were honored.

Shortly after all fifty states were commemorated in coinage, United States "possessions"
were equally honored.

The coins became collectible conversation pieces and were initially available
for the purchase price of twenty-five cents!

Prior to these commemorative coins,
the tail of the US quarter looked like this:

Meanwhile, the head of the state quarter looked like that:

But I will interpret the letter  P  personally
to mean "Paul, compare it with
the image it replaced."

It will be my pleasure to do so.

Prior to the commemorative  coins,
the HEAD of the US quarter looked like that:

The profile of George Washington
was much bigger.

The year of issuance was below his neck
and LIBERTY in large letters glowed above his head...

Compare that with the same word
tucked under his chin in the state quarters: LIBERTY

History and artistic–in miniature–were conveyed  on the back of the state quarters
but the change on the front can be summarized simply as The Shrinking of Liberty.

God Bless America.
