This was a $.20 Magazine Cover
The artist is Mary Petty.
She was a New Yorker illustrator for nearly fifty years.
This cover is a slice of life for Ms. Petty's fictional family, the Peabodys.
The featured member of the household was usually Fay, the maid.
Fay was a different kind of whistle blower.
She also had her Kafka-esque moments.
Sometimes, Fay could look down on the world.
The "Kafka-esque" hyperlink answers the question: Why was Mary Petty so awesome?
The next hyperlink answers the question: Where is Mary Petty's image page?
The next featured New Yorker cover artist is here.
The next Kafka page is there.

ReplyDeleteI do think Fay is wearing a gas mask.
My bad.
DeleteAnother Kafka joke gets de-bugged.
But the idea of wearing a gas mask with a bonnet
is sorta Kafka-esque
or just deliciously dark irony.
Indeed, Fay was reflecting on her buggy reflection, and her new look.
